Where is evil, in all the wood?

Hey all you SPXers and fans of Jade T Superstar, I have some sad news. The Bethesda North Marriott Hotel broke the news to me today that they are in illegal noncomplicance with the Americans With Disabilities Act and do not offer anything in the way of wheelchairs or disability services that would aid me and Ms. Jade Superstar in successfully getting around the con today. It was suggested that I call around to local medical supply stores which makes me do the sad laughter because it sure would be nice to be able to afford the (sometimes literal) arm and leg charged for a single damn day of wheelchair rental if I hadn’t already gone broke through paying hospital, medication insurance bills!

Superstar at next year’s SPX and other cons, you can contact The Marriott with the information below and let them know that their law-breaking refusal to make their hotel accessible to EVERYONE has caused a severe reduction in the number of therapy dog pug hugs on the con floor as well as more than a few tears shed by yours truly over the money, time, existing physical pain, and effort that has already gone into preparing for the con, surviving the trip, and Marriott forcing me to break my promises of more friends, pugs, and comics for today.

**Don’t let the loopholes exploited by the businesses required to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act fool you; while the events held in a business such as the Marriott are not required to comply and offer disability and mobility services, the ADA does require the business itself to comply. Anyone who has seen this Marriott Bethesda North Hotel & Conference Center should be able to guess that mobility-impaired people would not be able to function using it as a hotel—it is far too large have zero wheelchairs and disability services for its primary service as a hotel, and that is noncompliance with US law.
